Thedifficultandwindingtrenchofpebblesalongwhichtheyhadtrackedthefugitivesforsolong,expandedtoabroadslope,andwithacommonimpulsethethreemenleftthetrail,androdetoalittleeminencesetwitholive-duntrees,andtherehalted,thetwoothers,asbecamethem,alittlebehindthemanwiththesilver-studdedbridle。

Foraspacetheyscannedthegreatexpansebelowthemwitheagereyes。

Thegauntmanwiththescarredlipwasthefirsttospeak。“Nowhere,“
