Whenthecaterpillarsbecamemoths,theymadefriendswiththeever-increasingOddities——albinoes,mixed-leggers,single-eyedcomposites,facelessdrones,halfqueensandlayingsisters;andtheever-dwindlingbandoftheoldstockworkedthemselvesbaldandfray-wingedtofeedtheirqueercharges。MostoftheOdditieswouldnot,andmany,onaccountoftheirmalformations,couldnot,gothroughaday"sfield-work;buttheWax-moths,whowerealwaysbusyonthebrood-comb,foundpleasanthomeoccupationsforthem。Onealbino,forinstance,dividedthenumberofpoundsofhoneyinstockbythenumberofbeesintheHive,andprovedthatifeverybeeonlygatheredhoneyforsevenandthreequarterminutesaday,shewouldhavetherestofthetimetoherself,andcouldaccompanythedronesontheirmatingflights。Thedroneswerenotatallpleased。
