Theirmoneywastheresultofhardlabor,andfrugalitywasnottobewonderedat.Inacommercialcommunityarchitecturereceivesmoreattention.

Theschoolhousewastwostoriesinheight,andcontainedtwoschools.Theprimaryschool,forchildrenundereight,waskeptinthelowerroom.Thegrammarschool,formoreadvancedscholars,whichMabelFrosthadundertakentoteach,occupiedtheupperportionofthebuilding.

AsMabelapproachedtheschoolhouse,escortedbySquireHadley,shenoticed,afewrodsinadvance,atall,slenderwoman,withlongringletsfallingoverapairofnarrowshoulders.

"Thatladyisyourcolleague,MissFrost,"saidtheSquire.

"Mycolleague?"repeatedMabel,inatoneofinquiry.

BenaccompaniedMissFrostfromdesktodesk,andgreatlyfacilitatedhertaskbyhissuggestions.Atlengththenamesofallthescholarsweretaken.
